About Us
OuR story
4 years ago our family found what could only be described as a hidden treasure while house hunting – a beautiful, white brick house on 3 acres of land in the old part of a rapidly expanding Texas suburb. We moved in that Christmas, and The Roost Farm Company was born. We have always been nature enthusiasts and animal lovers, but this new place gave us the opportunity to fully explore those passions.
Our foster cats became a permanent part of the family. We adopted a dog from the land’s previous owners. We bought a horse, and a trailer – and a tractor. We brought home 6 chickens, which turned into 12, which turned into 40, and watched as our small garden blossomed into a full blown greenhouse tunnel. We knew the cracked clay and overgrazed fields would take a lot of nurturing to support any sort of crops, but we were willing to try.
This rehabilitation project dragged us headfirst into the world of regenerative farming. Horrified to learn how destructive the food we eat was to both our planet and our health, we decided to fully embrace sustainable agriculture. With hundreds of hours of research down, and many more to go, we now hope to share both our passion and our knowledge with as many people as we can. Whether through fostering community, teaching about sustainability, or providing clean food, we believe that making a difference starts on the farm.

Nurturing the Land, Nourishing the Soul
Our mission at The Roost Farm Co. is to ensure a safe, healthy world for this generation and the next. We hope to achieve this by combining sustainability, education, and great products! First, we are committed to responsible land management – working with the land, not against it.You can learn more about our sustainable practices on the right.
We teach about the importance of sustainability through tours, events, and partnerships with like minded producers. This works to foster a local community and bring people closer to one another in this modern age. At the forefront of our mission, though, is producing better quality products that are better for you. We truly believe that real, clean food is the best preventative medicine. We grow food the way it’s supposed to be grown. Trust us, your body, and your taste buds can tell the difference.

We prioritize "No Till" farming, a practice that minimizes soil disturbance and preserves its structure, organic matter, and beneficial microorganisms. By avoiding conventional tilling or plowing, we promote soil health, prevent erosion, and sequester carbon, contributing to climate change mitigation.

If you are wondering if there’s really that much of a difference between our food and food from the supermarket, there is. It starts in our soil. Good soil is alive, brimming with microbes, bacteria and fungi. We use compost, while other farms use fertilizer. Synthetic fertilizers provide some of the nutrients the plants need, but compost provides approximately 70 micronutrients that end up in our body. Along with being healthier, nutrient rich plants just taste better! Fertilizers also strip the soil and can cause human health hazards. In fact, lots of the food we put into our bodies poses a risk to our health. Some of the most widely used pesticides contain arsenic, and organochlorines like DDT are proven carcinogens. Chemicals used in conventional agriculture have also been linked to reproductive issues, birth defects, and heart disease. Our produce is grown in accordance with organic standards and our own research. This means that we do not use synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers, ensuring that you receive high-quality produce without having to worry about harmful chemicals in your body or the environment.

We use cover cropping and crop rotation techniques to enhance soil fertility and prevent nutrient depletion. Cover crops, such as legumes and grasses, help fix nitrogen in the soil, improve soil structure, and suppress weed growth. By rotating crops, we prevent the buildup of pests and diseases, maintaining the long-term health of our fields and avoiding having to use harmful chemicals.

Nearly 70% of the planet's water consumption is from agriculture. We realize the importance of conserving water, so we use a combination of drip irrigation mulching, and rain barrels for efficient irrigation. We also use solar energy to remove chlorine from our water before we water our plants to avoid killing the soil microbiome.

We believe in the importance of biodiversity for a healthy and resilient ecosystem. We actively promote biodiversity on our farm by planting native Texas plants and flowers, creating habitat for beneficial insects and pollinators. This enhances the overall ecological balance, contributing to pest control, pollination, and a thriving ecosystem.
